thought would give this process a go so could put nice finish on the alloy parts i make for my projects.
turned out i am either dumber than thought was or its not as easy as it looks on utube, coz got the anodising just fine, but cant get the colour dying right yet, anyone else had a go at this process???? I think didnt get something quite rite eh!!!~!not guna give up tho,got all these nice alloy parts made for my new pcp pistol and want them anodised black. Trying a process that dosnt use acid but a pool chemical as not so nasty as acid to handle and seems be working well as the anodising goes, but stuffed up the colouring process somehow, went a gold colour instead black, possibly didnt clean parts propperly,so going strip anodising n start again, will keep postedon how it goes. Cheers Mike

what dye are you useing...
i used a old chip fryer to heat the dye.. but if you get it to hot the heat will seal/ harden the new oxidized layer & it won't take up the dye.. the process i use was as follows... Polish. in to costic soda for a few seconds... rinse in fresh water... into a acid tank.... used a DC welder for the power sorce... rinse in water.. into the dye tank... then drip dry... A water cooled acid tank works best... the power flowing though it will heat it up.... that will harden the oxidized layer before you can get it into the dye tank... think I use 20% battrey acid./water in the tank.. the negitive plates need a surface area at least as big as the surface area of the peice/peices you are anodizeing... ..

have all that information thanx ,i just stuffed up during the process,an anodising fine, but did find have to deanodise the alli wire i was using to hold work, cant use wire twice without deanodisingas the anodising
becomes an insulater, need some titaniam wire as it dosnt apparently anodise, think stuffed up somewhere with cleaning the work, which affected the dye process, wasnt using a caustic clean/etc bath,am now. think my prob was me in too much of a hurry eh!!! Wot were you anodising Pete??? Cheers Mike

Still working on this but like other projects have run out of a few things that will have to wait until run
outa beer or the wife drags me to town coz we run outa food or something. Need try a different type dye for colouring the anodising, the stuff i had didnt penertrate and stay inthe anodised parts for some reason, guna try RIT dyes that others using successfully,so will leave it here til get more dye. Cheers Mike
