Diana Mod 52 Cocking Lever Tesion?

Finally got to fitting the new lever to replace the first bent then broken rods of the side-lever cocking system - they were bent (then broke) when I bought it unseen from an online auction for $360 so she owes me $558 and shoots about 16.7 foot pounds. I've wanted one since the late 80s and she looks hardly used for her age.

I think the lever requires the right tension on the threaded bolt for the lever to close and remain tidily closed when the breech is closed by reversing the cocking movement. To do this requires taking the all but useless circlip off and removing the pivot bolt and I guess trial and error - shortening the linkage until it self tensions in against the breech.

Can anyone tell me if there is a better way than trial and error?

And my eyesight is nowhere near good enough for open sights but the Diana and I managed a group of about an inch at my ca 18 meters from first time using it at that range. Surprised I managed that frankly because the target was a blur and I could only just make out the bull. 

I have a scope to fit but you Good Bastards have convinced me to keep an open sights rifle...long term that open sights rifle may turn out to be the Meteor  because I think the Goddess of the Hunt deserves to be pointed with accuracy and I'm not giving up those springers. Yet.

I'm also noticing a lot about if you had the trigger out there are things to watch out for in reinstalling,mostly things that need to be moved out of way as reinstalling

Yeah I was rather surprised to see "Diana/RWS" in something I read,which got me to change search parameters.
I know nothing of Diana's and thought that RWS was just pellets.
So you taught me something in a roundabout way 👍👍

Yeah it's handy, but not all air rifles need it. I found sig didn't mind a tighter hold.
Think I was taken aback by the sharp
Innova back then. Had a bsa metor super .177 back then. Took a club trophy with it, shot all of the pegs off clothes line, killed any sparrow in range,shot a white butterfly on the wing at about 15m. Thought it took 3 shots but turned out first two went through wings and didn't stop it, 3rd was just to much to keep flying. Loved that rifle, but always dreamed of the sharp and rabbit hunting. Think mum had a daisy air pistol back then for club shooting.
But it's a whole differnt kettle of fish these days in the airgun world.
And truthfully though I'd still love a sharp,frankly I wouldn't buy another pumper for hunting, springers are where it's at for me. I'd love to get a gas ram conversion for the 97.
Lighter stock,after market open sights (I like a rifle to have the option of open sights)and that would be happy as a 🐖 in 💩
