I don't have an air rifle that will drop a wallaby.
That area is getting alot of rain, so unless you find a farm you may well be tramping through wet bush and sodden ground to get anywhere to shoot. Miserable conditions to be in for a couple of days when you can wait for summer.
Its not like the reward of a dear or pig.
How ever the road between rotorua and whakatane and adjoining side roads, not to mention a gravel pit and few pull overs will lead you to areas of Bush that are walliby areas.
I've seen wallaby that way and last time exploring the general area picked up plenty of sign. Better from kaurau back to rotovagas than closer to whakatane
