Author: RangerPete
Subject: Hare 'n Coke.
Posted: 27 Mar 2025 at 11:19am

Either I've never seen this section before on the forum, or its brand new?
This looks like it will be the first post, so maybe its all new.

Here is my own recipe for Hare 'n Coke. (Its bloody good!)
Makes enough for 4 people.

Take the back legs, back straps and the fillets (tender loins) off a hare.
4 onions
6 sticks of celery
4 carrots
200g mushrooms (I like to use oyster mushrooms)
500ml coke (fat coke, not diet or zero)
250ml boiling water
1 oxo beef stock block
Course salt (that pink himilayan stuff works fine)
Olive oil
Balsamic vinegar
4 Tbl spoons Bisto gravy powder
2 Tbl spoons corn starch (if needed)

Debone and cube the hare meat.
Rub a bit of course salt onto the meat and leave for an hour.
Chop onions finely.
Chop carrots and celery into smallish pieces.

Brown the meat (with course salt) in hot oil. Set aside.
Fry onions in the hot oil till translucent.
Add celery and carrots and fry for a few minutes. Remove and set aside.
Fry mushrooms in the same pan, add a little balsamic vinegar while frying mushrooms.

Put the browned meat into the bottom of a crock pot/slow cooker.
Layer onions, celery and carrots on top of meat, and mushrooms on top.
Dissolve oxo block in 250ml boiling water and add to pot.
Add 500ml coke and slow cook for a few hours.
Slowly stir in the 4 tbl spoons of Bisto gravey powder. If sauce still needs more thickening up mix the corn starch with a little water to form a watery paste and slowly stir into the pot.
Cook for another 2 hours.

Serve with mashed potatoes and enjoy with your adult beverage of choice!
