They also can't be returned to the water once you catch one. Must be killed when caught. Can't leave the bank alive.
Also a great fish for bow fishing. Ja they are carp. Folks around here call them koi carp, although they don’t look anything like the exquisite koi that people have in their fishponds, the top ones from Japan that can sell for 100’s of thousands of dollars!

Took one of my bows out and went for a drive this afternoon.
Ended up knee deep in the tail waters of one of the peat lakes that drains into the lower reaches of the Waikato river. The lake level was lower than I’ve seen it in many months, and I ended up hunting in areas I havent been in before. Water was dirty brown and flowing out the lake at quite a rate.

Not many fish around, but I got in 3 good stalks. Fish were very skitterish and would turn and dart off just as I got to full draw every time, quite frustrating.

What I love about bow fishing is that it’s a combination of hunting and fishing, and depending on where you are (like where I was today, knee deep in water and grass) you really can “walk and stalk” and hunt fish.
And for me that’s about as much fun as you can have while still keeping your clothes on.

Didnt see too many fish today. Dirty water, barametric pressure, water temp, or just wrong place right time? Who knows. But when you get a good day, man you can have a blast!!!
Still better then a day at work 😉
