When filing the trigger burs, the parts were so hardened, they damaged my files, whereas the latch rod de-burred very easily. I thought once this is all smoothed out and lubed up, there should be no more problems, but unfortunately not.

At around 1100 shots, the sear failed to grab, so the rifle would no longer cock.

After it failed, I took the rifle apart and found a wide and rounded groove cut into the latch rod. I think if I hadn't smoothed the trigger burs out, it would have cut through even faster, the trigger burs from factory were like a serrated knife. The latch rod doesn't seem to be have hardened to the same extent the trigger parts were.

I think the overall design of the rifle including the trigger is fine for the price point, and it worked well after a tune up. I think the problems with it comes down to poor workmanship during construction. Which is a shame, my daughter had several hours of good fun plinking with it.

I know some will think this failure was due to something I did wrong, and that is always possible. But given the wear on the latch rod after the first 200 shots, I am reasonably certain it wasn't hardened as well as it should have been.

Crosman aren't selling parts online currently, even pyramid air said they couldn't get a new piston assembly. I have disposed of this rifle now and replaced it with a BSA V-Scout, which is Gamo delta, with a wooden stock and full metal barrel. My daughter likes the wooden stock better than the plastic ones.

My soft spot for Crosman has definitely gone

If it doesn't settle I'll break it down again and try just moly grease on the piston. Everything else is working really well with it now.

My youngest will be the main user of this rifle and it fits her well. She is enjoying the new challenge and even talked about taking it hunting 😁

Silicon oil on external linkage pins, silicone grease made for o-rings at barrel seals. (Also what im storing spare seals coated in and wrapped in gladwrap)
Rem oil for barrel and recieiver outside.
Also have differnt spray silicone and small
tub of silicon grease.
Crosman silicone chamber oil.
For 1322 pelgun oil and silicone oil for linkages. Reason use oil for external linkages i can blow them out with compressor to get rid of dust and just oil again instead of pull apart and grease. Gets dry and dusty here.
Have seen video where dude uses spray silicone and silicone grease mixed together to lubricate piston seal i might try.

Author: Daz-nz
Subject: 1301
Posted: 27 Dec 2025 at 10:56am

After completing the overhaul of this rifle, I'm wondering what others on here use for lubrication of their airguns? Being in New Zealand, it tends to be a case of what can be found and/or imported.

For this rifle I used Abbey moly paste on the metal-to-metal points, Super Lube silicone grease on the metal to plastic points, Abbey moly grease and a very little Abbey SM50 silicone oil.

In the trigger, I put a small lump of Abbey moly paste on the metal-to-metal parts that I had just filed and a light smear on the other metal-to-metal parts. With Super Lube silicone grease on the metal to plastic parts.

For the piston, I put a light smear of Abbey moly paste over the piston and bore, then cleaned it back lightly with meths, to fill the microscopic pores in the metal, leaves a smoother surface. Then I put a light smear of Super Lube grease over the piston.

On the main spring, I put a very thin coat of Abbey moly paste, then a light coat of Abbey moly grease. With a little Super Lube silicone grease where the spring presses on the base of the plastic spring guide.

Once the rifle was back together, I put a drop of Abbey SM50 silicone oil down on either side of the piston, waited a minute for it to run down and then put the stock on and put a few pellets through it to work the oil in. I'll have to repeat the oiling now and then.

I brought in the Super Lune silicone grease and Super Lube silicone oil together. I found an Abbey airgun lubricant kit at Young's. I see Abbey no longer do the moly paste anymore
