I remember when I first got my benjamyn pistol and I was using Predator polymags. They dropped pigeons so well at close ranges and I thought they were fantastic until I tried them on paper past 15 m. Certainly not pellet on pellet, but perfect for the job they were doing. 

So maybe they are really good as a pest control pellet but not for paper punching.

No doubt it'll be well presented and full of useful information!  Pete's work is always well analysed and researched!  

I'll be interested in your personal findings as you try these hollow points!  I'd love to see your 5-shot groups at 50 yds, firstly with your best pellet then with your hollow points.  I think you'll be amazed to see how inaccurate the hollow points are beyond 30 yds.....

I guess if you're shooting rats or pigeons in barns (out to 25 yds), they'll be fine.  But then you'll have to change pellet, adjust your scope settings and re-lead your barrel before taking longer shots?

Or, I guess you could keep one rifle dedicated to hollow points only?  Ummmm.......

I tried some hollow points once and the results just proved what Gary Wain's experimentation told us.  But maybe your rifles will like 'em?!

This comprehensive analysis came to many interesting conclusions.  Two of those conclusions that are relevant here, are:

I expect its a different matter for slugs (?) but with pellets, I recommend you find the best normal diabolo round-nose pellet that suits your particular barrel and you'll have the most accurate solution for all ranges.

PS:  Gary Wain (the author) also tested a variety of hollow points for accuracy.  He tested Dynamic Triple P1's, RWS Super H Points, BSA Interceptors, SMK Victory Implodes, Bisley Pest Control, Beeman Crow Mag, Ultrashock HP, Rem Baracuda Hunter, H&N Baracuda Hunter, Precision Ballistics Mako and Bisley Superfields.

He found in his (Pulsar) barrels that the Bisley Superfields were best, the SMK Victory Implodes were the worst.  But none of them matched the normal round-nosed pellets.....
