Sash clamps. : My five cents is go for a longer...

The screw allows you to make fine adjustments to add or remove compression. With a quick release it releases compression all in on go. A compressed spring has a fair amount of pre compression travel which can release violently and fire parts into dark corners of your garage..... 1200mm length will allow you to hold the barrel + action between the clamps.

Like Pauly said, a means of holding the rifle and stopping it from sliding out of the clamp when it's under compression is a good idea.

But when I opened up my first 97 it had a long soft spring in it and there was about 80 mm of preload, so I needed the travel on a sash clamp to release the pressure or else I would have injured myself.
